Bitterness and Pessimism:
The Soul Destroyer

It seems that one can easily become bitter and pessimistic these days. Life throws at us incredible obstacles, incredible difficulties, incredible events and experiences that can absolutely traumatize our souls and can easily traumatize one’s hope for happier days ahead.

As life throws us more and more fast balls and as we continue to take on more and more strikes, it is easy for bitterness to creep into our lives and into our hearts. We hope and wish for so many incredible things to happen to us and we usually end up with a fraction of what we had dreamed about or imagined. Some people have seen such horrors in this world, that any type of hope or goodness to come back and absolutely recover their hearts from bitterness and pessimism would almost take a miracle or an act of God.

Many people’s bitterness and pessimism is written all over their faces. You can see that they took one too many punches to their soul, one too many punches to their heart, and they have given up. People have taken the TKO without even realizing it, without even knowing that they are down on the ground, broken and beaten by bitterness and pessimism.

These two characteristics create a blanket overview of the world, where everything you see becomes filtered through these two lenses and your entire world becomes a dark and baron outlook. They are life killers. They will sap you of any hope you have of living a life of incredible beauty, inspiration and wonder.

We can't always live in a one seasoned world and bitterness and pessimism seemed to be built into the very fabric of our minds. Always remember that goodness, love, beauty, hope, optimism, passion, and grace exist too. These qualities are just the opposite side of the coin and sometimes we have to flip the coin over and begin to see the good things in life and within this world. The bitterness and pessimistic side of the coin is always there, just try not to live there. It can destroy your soul. It can destroy who you really are and all of your aspirations and dreams for this lifetime.

As one of my teachers says, "Pray for love, pray for the healing of the world, even if it doesn't work." It's just the fact that you are putting the intention out into the world which counts and matters.
